Each county in Illinois is holding huge amounts of unclaimed money waiting to be claimed. $14 million for Peoria County, $5.5 million for Tazewell County, $3 million for Knox County, $1.5 million for Fulton County, and much more.

In 2008, Illinois held an event to see just how much money they could get back to rightful owners and heirs in just one day. They managed to get back $585,000 to rightful owners and heirs in one day. This took place at an event in Rock Island. In 2009, Illinois decided to try and beat the $585,000 mark by holding another unclaimed property event at a mall. After 700 unclaimed property searches in seven hours later of filing claims they returned $1.625 million to rightful owners and heirs as a result of this event. The largest amount returned to a single person was over $190,000. The average claim for an individual is about $200.
